As the birthplace of the Michelin Guide, Paris is the ultimate fine dining city. Here are eight of the French capital's most exceptional starred restaurants.
1. L'Arpège
Chef Alain Passard has spent nearly three decades at L'Arpège and is now one of France's most feted living chefs. He is dedicated to using sustainable produce and the restaurant boasts its own 2.5 hectare garden. The menu changes seasonally but all meals feature a deliciously simple herb salad, dusted with hazelnut praline.
2. Lasserre
Once frequented by the likes of Salvador Dali and Audrey Hepburn, the walls of Lasserre would no doubt have a story or two to tell. This is the place to come for mouth-watering delicacies like chilled lobster bisque served with fresh white peaches, and beautifully crafted pastries from former Ritz chef Claire Heitzler.
3. Passage 53
The two Michelin-starred Passage 53 is located in the 19th century Passage des Panorama, and its French cuisine is as traditional as its surroundings. The serving style, however, is not, as there is no menu. Cross your fingers for the veal tartare, mixed with Gillardeau oysters and sweet apple jelly.
4. Pierre Gagnaire
Pierre Gagnaire serves fine fusion cuisine in his eponymous three-starred restaurant, located just off the Champs-Élysées and only a 20-minute Metro ride from the Radisson Blu Le Metropolitan Hotel, Paris Eiffel. Highlights of the menu include a red mullet jelly spiced with saffron, and duck drizzled with a hibiscus jus.
5. L'Astrance
Like Passage 53, there's an intriguing element of surprise at the tiny L'Astrance, as you don't know what you'll be eating until it arrives. Your meal is chosen by chef Pascal Barbot, though you may be lucky enough to experience his signature layered foie gras, served with button mushrooms, hazelnut oil and lemon confit.
6. Antoine
One for seafood fans, Antoine serves unashamedly extravagant meals, such as whole roasted lobster with winter vegetables en cocotte (in pots), and coquilles Saint-Jacques, a creamy scallop dish. Its Seine-side setting is sublime, and diners can watch all the action going on in the open kitchen.
7. La Tour d'Argent
This Parisian institution first opened its doors in the 16th century and is every bit as grand as you'd expect. Diners eat classically French dishes, including the restaurant's trademark duck in piquant cherry sauce, served on silver plates by flickering candlelight.
8. Benoit
With a convivial atmosphere and convenient central location close to the Île de la Cité, Benoit is an excellent choice for diners hoping to experience classic French bistro dining at its best. True foodies will appreciate the hearty, offal-centric cuisine (highlights include a gourmet sweetbread casserole) and 350-strong wine list.
As you can see, Paris is a city filled with fine dining establishments accessible from the Radisson Blu Le Metropolitan Hotel. Your journey to culinary excellence starts on the hotel's doorstep, thanks to its acclaimed in-house restaurant which serves continental breakfast in the morning and a broad range of French and Mediterranean dishes throughout the day.
Complimented with the freshest ingredients from market gardener Joël Thiebault, the hotel's evening menu includes juicy Angus steak fillets with enoki and tetragone shoots, succulent tempura prawns marinated with miso and sansho peppers, and a hearty lobster and vegetable casserole dish for two.
